The SCCRS Open Show was held at Kempshott Hall in Basingstoke on Sunday 17th July. It was an opportunity for members and visitors to meet up and renew acquaintances. The Show also hosted a round of the Guppy League organised by the British Livebearer Association. The SCCRS Show was also the second round of the Association of Aquarists Superbowl competition: featuring 42 individual classes it is the largest Open Show in the calendar.

Guppy show

The Guppy Show included three classes each with four sub-divisions attractively exhibited on a purpose built display stand. The main classes were broad tail, sword tail and short tail. The broad tails are sub-divided into fan tail, triangle tail, veil tail and flag tail; the sword tails are divided into double-sword, top sword, bottom sword and lyre tail: the short tails are split into spade tail, spear tail, round tail and pin tail. With entries in every class it was an impressive display.

SCCRS Open Show featured entries in most classes and some truly exceptional quality entries. The highest pointed exhibitor was Roy Chapman from Southend who tightened his hold on the prized A of A Superbowl trophy for 2011. The runner-up was John Egan from Port Talbot. Keith Sollitt from Bracknell club was placed third.

The judges were not short of candidates for Best in Show but clearly three exhibits impressed the most. In first place was an exceptional example of Leporacanthicus galaxias entered by John Egan; second place was taken by the Crenuchlus spilurus owned by Keith Sollitt; an equally deserved third place was taken by the Xiphophorus cortezi of Mike Mansbridge.

Chris Ralph, Tim Chamberlain, Alan Dunne and Andy Pearce made up the judging team provided by the Association of Aquarists. Prizes were presented by AQUA ONE and TETRA and awards for the Diploma classes were supplied by PORTON AQUATICS.

SCCRS would like to thank all who attended and helped at the show.
