The Show Scene returned to Basingstoke and to be more specific to Kempshott Village Hall. The Association of Aquarists has strong links with BDAS as it was the home club of two of its founder members Adrian Blake and Mervyn Strange. These prominent aquarists are no longer with us but are well remembered and much of their beliefs and teaching live on in the current membership of both the Aof A and BDAS. Kempshott Village Hall holds good memories and is an excellent venue both for shows, auctions and other events. The space and good natural light also make it an excellent venue for exhibiting and judging so there was no space for the white stick brigade – apologies to anyone who has need of a white stick but as we all know they are only good for shaking and no use in judging! BDAS Open Show was also to be the final face off between John Egan and Roy Chapman for supremacy in the 2010 Association of Aquarists Superbowl competition. Depending on the day’s results either could win the points competition. With excellent results on the day scoring 95 points Roy won the event and the 2010 Superbowl. John Egan and Keith Sollitt were equal second on the day both scoring 49 points and Peter Quested was a close fourth with 45 points. Best in Show went to Peter Quested with a beautiful Fundulopanchax gardneri and John Egan was runner up with Lamprologus leleupi. Keith Sollitt came third with Hemirhamphodon pogonognathus. Diploma class winners were Keith Sollitt, John Egan, Roy Chapman and Charlotte Ralph. BDAS was an excellent show and enjoyed by all who were happy to be back at Kempshott. |
