Having long since lost count of the number of Tongham Open Shows I have managed I can honestly say this was one of the best certainly in recent years if not ever. The quality of fish was exceptional with many exhibits exceeding 80 points. The competition and rivalry amongst exhibitors was friendly but fierce and the Superbowl final result was in question right up to the judging of the last class. The final positions were confirmed with the points from two teams of livebearers!
I can say I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of exhibits and numbers of visitors to this event. The essence of any good show is the meeting of like minds and interests and the opportunity to share in the experience – not the number of entries. Our events seem always to be remembered for the friendly attitudes and also particularly the open approach of our judges. This Show saw at least six species that have not been previously exhibited at an Association of Aquarists event. As an Association we welcome new species and once an expected size is established they are readily added to our listings. Yes it is good to recognise and welcome these additions to the show bench as well as welcoming newcomers to the hobby- three prospective new members visited last Sunday’s event and directly as a result of finding our new web site. Thanks to all who exhibited at the Show, the visitors and supporters and also to the judges and helpers without whom our shows could not be such a success. Superbowl Round Winner – Roy Chapman
Best Fish in Show – L128 Blue Phantom Pleco owned by John Egan
